Ma nouvelle planche perso, un truc bizarre qui emprunte à la fois au longboard, au gun et à la « big guy »: 9′2″ x 23″ x 3 1/2″, beaucoup de rocker mais des rails en ogive, un outline gunny mais 23″ de large… L’idée était d’avoir une planche qui ne soit pas un longboard et reste néanmoins surfable par un vieillard ventripotent…
My new personal board is a mix between a longboard, a gun and a « big guy ». 9′2″ x 23″ x 3 1/2″, lots of rocker but ogival rails, a gunny outline but 23″ wide… The idea was to have a board that would not be a longboard but would still be ridable by a potbellied old man…

Hier, c’était le premier meeting de la saison pour le Vintage Surf Club, à la terrasse de Parlementia, Guéthary. Belle journée, beaucoup de belles planches, beaucoup de rencontres sympas. Et puis un moment fort: François Lartigau retrouvant, plus de quarante ans plus tard, la première planche que lui avait shapée le jeune Mike Diffenderfer. Planche appartenant à mon pote Daniel et qui dormait dans mon grenier depuis de nombreuses années.
Yesterday was the first meeting of the season for the Vintage Surf Club, held on Parlementia’s terrace in Guéthary. Great weather, heaps of nice vintage boards, many friendly meetings. And then, an emotionally strong moment as François Lartigau (’70s french champion) saw the first board shaped for him by a young Mike Diffenderfer for the first time since 40 years… This board was bought by my friend Daniel and had been quietly sleeping in my attic for all these years.
Daniel et moi avons commencé à surfer ensemble à Guéthary en 1966 et il m’a aidé dans mes tous premiers essais de construction de planches. Voici nos héros réunis autour de la planche que je lui ai faite pour son anniversaire (et livrée avec trois mois de retard…) Deux superbes athlètes. Le temps n’a pas de prise sur nous…
Daniel and I started surfing together in 1966 in Guéthary and he helped me build my very first boards. Here we are, standing beside the board I made for his birthday (and delivered about three months late…) Outstanding athletes… Time has no hold on us…
